Saturday Matinee
It's Saturday afternoon and my daughters have a friend over from next door. I'm "babysitting" the bunch while Lizzy takes a nap. All 3 girls are glued to the television watching "Cars". Gabby asks her friend (Zoe) if she likes being at our house. The little conversation goes like this.
Gabby: "Do you like being our house"
Zoe: "Yeah"
Gabby: "You can come over anytime you want"
Ellie: "You can sleep in our room"
Gabby: "She probably wants to sleep at her Mom's house".."Do you?"
Zoe: "Yep"
Gabby: "Do you want to come over tomorrow?"
Zoe: "I don't know"
Ellie: "Do you like us?"
Zoe: "Yeah"
As the conversation went on, I wanted so bad to tell them "Slow down, you're trying too hard girls". They wanted so bad for their new friend to like them. In fact, Zoe has tried to leave twice and both times the girls convinced her to stay a little longer.
I suppose God has some of the same feelings towards us as our Father when He looks down and sees us struggling to make people like us down here. I think the majority of the New Testament was written to tell us "You are accepted" no matter what your friends think of you. Thank you Jesus for liking us even when we're unlikable. -edwin
