It's not about me

This is a picture of the worship band at the Super Summer evangelism training camp last week. They put a huge sheet in front of the band to emphasize the fact that worship is not about us! As I sang that night, tears rolled down my face as I recalled the many times in ministry I've made things about me. I've rescently been teaching the "13 Inch" rule at youth group. That is, the distance between hell and heaven is about 13 inches from your head to your heart. There are a lot of people out there that call themselves Christians, and believe in their minds that Jesus died on the cross for their sins, but haven't decided to follow Jesus with their hearts and their lives. For these people, life is all about "me". When you talk to them, they are consumed with their own desires. When they make decisions, they ask "What do I want". The whole of their life is consumed with selfishness and greed. These people may look good on the outside, but their hearts are filled with evil. That is why Jesus will say to them "depart from me, I never knew you" (Matthew 7:21-24) Be careful of these people, their cancer-like attitudes can spread quickly. Pursue God, run after righteousness, do not flirt with the world, but fall in love with Christ everyday.
Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled"

Lazy Summer Days

Okay, so it's summer time. School is out, swimming is in, and curfews are late. But, just because school is not in session, does that have to mean that our brains and bodies go into "veg-mode"?

Psalm 90:12 says "Teach us to number our days, that we may present to you a heart of wisdom". Even in the summer months our days need numbering. We don't know if we have tomorrow, so we must not waste today. It's during these summer months that we can really do the kingdom work that God has called us to do. No homework,or 8hr days trapped in the classroom, you are now free to pursue God with reckless abandon!! Seize the day friends. Don't sit on the couch and be a potato, call up a friend that doesn't know Christ and share with them the wonderful news that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for their sins.

I went to the hospital to give a ride to a homeless guy today. He told me he only has a few months to live because of a brain tumor he has. I asked him where he's gonna go when he dies. He said "Heaven, I hope". I told him there is a way he can "Know" he's going to heaven(1 John 5:13). "Trust in Christ's death on the cross as payment fo ryour sin, and follow Jesus with your life and eternal life is yours" I said. The answer he gave me was sad, he said "I'll pay for my own mistakes!" I dropped him off at the shelter and said goodbye, probably for eternity. Don't waste today, because your friends may not have tomorrow...
